Carl Lundgren

Artist Biography
Carl's biography begins... "biography, Schmiography!," showing the sense of humor that he has developed in his long history as a professional artist and a Detroit icon. During the 1960's his posters brought him national attention - they not only gave an image to match the growing rock and roll movement, but became an image for the times themselves. Detroit and San Francisco were two major center of poster making activity. Popular concert venues included the Filmore West and the Avalon Ballroom in SF and the Grande Ballroom in Detroit, where such acts as The Cream, MC5, The Who, Pink Floyd, and Jefferson Airplane performed. Carl, after returning from California, found Gary Grimshaw who was creating rock and roll posters for the Grande. Gary took him on and they worked together - and little did they know that the posters they were making would subsequently become collectibles and well-remembered and in great demand.
