Martin Hirchak
Martin Hirchak
Martin Hirchak has taken his work from comic book pages to canvas. His pieces on canvas and wood panels have all the flare and color of comic book work but with the fine art twist that would look great in just about any setting. Hirchak is known for his work as the head of Pop Art Funnies, a Detroit based "comix" book. The "x" is because it’s an underground adult themed comic book. Hirchak is trying to do away with the distinction, but for now we have to call it "comix." In it’s third year Pop Art Funnies is now the largest underground comix circulated in the United States. Hirchak has recently been commissioned by Rob Zombie to do a rock poster. Coming in June of 2006, Hirchak has a show at the River’s Edge Gallery that features not only his work but work of other artists who have been associated with Pop Art Funnies.
