River's Edge Gallery was founded by Jim and Patt Slack in 1984. Jim was an artist and Patt was an interior designer and teacher. They were art collectors as well and their passion for art led them to create a space to show Jim's art work as well as other regional artist's work.
The first gallery was in a very small space in historic Wyandotte and they soon moved to a much larger location in the downtown area. Both Jim and Patt won community awards for their contributions to the local art scene and served on many art boards as well as helping to found a non-profit gallery.
The next move was made by Patt after Jim's death. Patt moved to a 3 story turn-of-the-century building where she continues her interior design and gallery business. She is joined by her associate designer, Jeremy Hansen; gallery director, Aimee Rodriguez and award winning framer, Jason Ray.
The gallery has been cited by several publications as being "the best gallery in metro Detroit" as well as having the "best shows of the year". The gallery continues to show some of the areas most creative artists in one-person and group shows.
